How to radicalize your research and amplify marginalized scholars.

What does Inclusion at Butte College Library Look Like?

Butte College Library Statement on Inclusion

The Butte College Library affirms its commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and antiracism. We believe these elements are fundamental to the success of students and reflects the college's broader commitment to IDEA. It is important that we provide a welcoming space, physically and virtually, making our services widely accessible while reflecting on the individual needs of each student. We seek to provide collections that are inclusive and diverse as well as being keenly aware of the unique demographics of our college population and broader community. We endeavor to provide ample opportunities for student feedback through various outreach and assessment strategies. We recognize the need for a diverse library workforce and recognize the benefits of diverse talents and backgrounds.

For more information on the projects we are working on please vising the Library Inclusion Plan.

Below are a few of the project we have completed:

  1. We removed daily fines and fees.
  2. Textbooks & "zero textbook Cost" (ZTC) books available
  3. Every new source we purchase goes through a diversity audit. We seek out resources that include many cultures, races, genders, identities, and abilities. We gather materials written by authors from traditionally underrepresented populations, and we look to highlight historically marginalized voices. https://butte.libguides.com/library_policies/CD
  4. Laptops & wifi Hotspots Available for checkout
  5. You can find both physical and online displays that highlight the history and achievements of underrepresented groups.
