Kanopy is a video streaming service with access to thousands of feature films and documentaries. Titles in Kanopy are licensed individually and the Library pays a license fee for each requested movie. If you're an instructor and want to request a title for your class, follow the instructions below for Faculty. If you're a student and need to watch a film for class, follow the instructions below for Students.
Want to assign a documentary or feature film for your students? Search Kanopy to see if it's available in their catalog and request the title. The Library will pay the license fee, activate the film, and send you a link. Then place it in your Canvas course for your students. Follow the instructions below to get started!
(Note: please be very selective when requesting titles. The Library has a limited budget set aside for this service and we want to accommodate as many different departments on campus as possible. Thanks!)
Step 1: go to butte.kanopy.com
Step 2: Click Log In To Butte. Then click Log In To Butte again on the next screen.
Step 3: Enter your Butte College Single-Sign-On Credentials. (Butte email and password.) You should only have to go through this process once unless you enter Kanopy through a different desktop, laptop, or mobile device.
Step 4: From here you can see all the titles Butte College has already licensed and search for new titles we haven't yet purchased. Type a title into the search box or browse titles using the drop down menu.
Step 5: Titles in Kanopy are licensed individually and the Library pays a license fee for each requested movie. After finding your movie in Kanopy, fill out the information box and click "Request Access". The Library will review your request and once approved we will send you a link to the movie. You can place this link into your Canvas course or embed the movie in a Canvas page. Reach out to us if you need assistance with this.
Has your instructor assigned a Kanopy film in your class? Follow the instructions below to set up your account. After setup you can watch your film on your desktop, tablet, or phone.
Step 1: go to butte.kanopy.com

Step 4: From here you'll see all the movies Butte College has available to watch, including the film your instructor has assigned. (You can also search for the movie in the search box at the top.) Click on the movie you're assigned to watch and you're good to go!
Step 1: download the Kanopy app. Click "Get Started".
Step 2: Click "Find University".
Step 3: Search "Butte College".
Step 4: Sign into Butte's "single-sign-on" with your Butte College email address and password.
Step 5: Create a kanopy account in the app.
Step 6: Search for the movie you're assigned to watch. It should now play in your app.
