FN 15: Understanding Library Research

Understanding Library Research

You are asked to do an assignment to find research articles on a topic, list the articles in AMA format, and do a summary on one of them. Follow these steps to complete your assignment.

Step 1: Choose one of the following topics for your research:

  • Mediterranean diet and cardiovascular disease
  • Body image and college students
  • Gluten free diet and celiac disease

Step 2:  Find three original research articles on the topic by using the Library Research databases

  • Make sure the articles are original research articles. An original research article is a report of a study written by the researcher(s) who did the study. The report usually includes the hypothesis, research method, analysis, and conclusion.
  • Click on the Finding Articles tab at the top to access suggested databases.
  • If you need to brush up on research techniques, click on the Research Strategies tab at the top to review research techniques.

Step 3: List all three articles in AMA citation style

  • When you find an article in the Library research database, you can click the "Cite" link on the right of the article and choose the AMA citation, copy and paste it to your WORD file.

Step 4: Read one of the articles in your list and write a summary of the article in about 250 words

In your assignment, you should include:

  • The topic of research
  • A list of three articles, listed in AMA citation format
  • A summary of one of the articles.
