Choose a topic that interests you: May sound obvious, but choose something you like. You're going to be spending a lot time on this topic, so you might as well enjoy it!
Can you find sources?: Do some test searching. Make sure you can find sources.
Avoid:
Topics that are too current/recent (you might not find any information, especially academic information);
Topics that are too local (you may not find academic related sources);
Topics that are too narrow (you may run out things to say)
Topics that are too broad (you may not be able tackle the issue in a short paper)
