The Library has a new staff member!  We'd like to welcome Jason Pien, who agreed to write up a short introduction:

Jason with a baby kangaroo!

My name is Jason Pien. I’m a Senior Library Technician. You can find me at LB 212, overseeing the library computers and periodicals, helping with circulation, reserves, and student workers. I’ve been working in libraries for 17 years. I’ve recently worked at the El Dorado County Library for ten years. Prior to that I worked at The Art Institute and Chico State libraries. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, toddler, and three cats.

Come and say hello to Jason sometime soon.  Sadly, the baby kangaroo won't be here.

And we're saying goodbye to another staff member, Marie:

My name is Marie LoPresti; I got my first library card when I was four and have worked in libraries since I was nineteen. I think libraries are one of the most important and overlooked resources of any community. I have always treasured the adventures and education you can find between the covers of a well written book.
For the last year I have been employed at Butte College, first as a student assistant in the library and then as the interim Library Technician in charge of Circulation and Reserves and acting as supervisor to our student assistants. Unfortunately, my interim position is coming to an end soon, but I just wanted to say that Butte has been an amazing place to work and I have really enjoyed my time here. The library is absolutely the best and full of amazing people. Thank you and best wishes to all my wonderful colleagues and amazing student assistants; I will miss you!

Have you checked out the library display for March on the theme of sustainability? We have lots of books on sustainability, ecology, and wildlife you can check out. We also have a curated online collection on these topics. The design of this month's display was inspired by retro Ranger Rick magazines and trading cards. Our freebies include cute animal buttons, bookmarks, and trading cards that double as notecards. You can use the trading card as a bookmark or to leave a note. There are multiple animal cards to choose from so drop by and choose a few of your favorites.

We also designed a mini animal fun fact book you can make yourself! Simply fold the book along the page lines, cut in the middle, and push together. Come by and see the simple directions. It is easier than it seems!

Baby bear playing with a flowerHappy March!  As we enjoy longer days and the green hills, almond blossoms, and tulip trees of a North Valley spring, the library will be running displays on sustainability and preserving wildlife.  Come in and choose a book, and grab some of our swag.  We've been having lots of fun making animal trading cards, bookmarks, and other fun items for you to take home.

We've also developed a sustainability collection in our library catalog, featuring a selection of fascinating books on the many facets of environmental topics.  ('Collections' in the catalog are a fairly new feature, and this is our 15th one -- take a look at all of them!)

Celebrate spring by learning more about what you can do to conserve our beautiful planet!
