With just a few more weeks left in the semester, it's time to prepare for finals and write those research papers. Librarians are here to help you with that research! We're available for casual questions and in-depth appointments, and we can help with:
- Topic ideas: Perhaps your instructor has asked for a paper on a current issue you care about -- but not marijuana, abortion, or gun control -- and now you are out of ideas. Or maybe you want to write about a topic you love, but you're finding it hard to focus and choose something the right size -- and you're not even sure that a book on that topic exists! What if you have a list of twenty possible topics and they all seem impossible? Librarians can help you find ideas or refine your idea to something just right, and lead you to sources that you didn't know existed.
- Research: find better, more reliable sources in our databases and bookshelves. We'll help you focus on what you need and how to find it efficiently -- and we never want you to get tripped up by sites that promise the ideal article and then want $30 for it. As a Butte College student, you have access to millions of articles at no cost, and we can guide you to them and find the ones you want.
- Citations: citations are a snap with a librarian to help. We can explain why you need them, how they work, and most importantly, we can show you how to get them and build your references page with no trouble at all.
Librarians are here to help you do your research faster, more efficiently, and with better results!
Librarians are available at Main Campus from 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Thursday, at the reference desk. If you don't see someone there, just ask at the checkout desk and they'll find a librarian for you. You can also call 530-879-4024 to reach the reference desk.
At Chico Center, there is a librarian on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00am - 3:00pm, at the reference desk in the back of the room. Call 530-879-4398.
Librarian help is always available, 24/7, on our chat line. Just look for the Live Chat box on the library's homepage.
And you can even make an appointment to meet with a librarian for focused research time!
